The six general (or core) competencies are best appreciated when embedded into daily activities and educational experiences. On the inpatient general internal medicine rotation, there are new web-based readings (OnLine_References) assigned each month. These assigned readings vary depending on the PGY level of the resident. On the inpatient general internal medicine service, faculty are still expected to orchestrate daily teaching rounds that include bedside observation, demonstration of history-taking and physical examination skills and discussion of clinical reasoning, differential diagnosis, risk-benefit assessment, and clinical judgment. However, now residents will be asked to review the assigned web-based readings for their PGY level, and faculty will assign different residents to present and discuss the topics from the monthly OnLine References for a few minutes each day. | ||||||||||
